Looking for an explanation of virtual lab automation and VMware Lab Manager, and better yet, to get a feel for the workflow of creating VM templates and allowing developers and users access to those templates via a web browser? Although the Lab Manager web page provides a wealth of knowledge about virtual lab automation (VLA) and product information, the best quick demonstration I’ve seen is VMware’s Camtasia Studio video. Check out the link for a 5 min overview and demonstration for how Lab Manager allows administrators to provision a Dev and Test environment quickly and easily.

The Lone Server is a funny video found on YouTube about a Windows 2003 Server that has realized his prime has passed. He ends up in a bar ordering drinks from Windows 2000 Server. The two discuss how they can no longer hang with the young and quick Server 2008 crowd. While discussing some of the Server 2008 features virtualization is mentioned and Server 2003 stands up and leans against two bar stools and proclaims “Look, I can virtualize. I am using two stools at once.” Finally, a young, hot Server 2008 walks by and Server 2003 tries to impress her by bragging about having the latest virus definitions. To Server 2003′s dismay, her reply is “Call me when you upgrade.”

Unfortunately I slept late Thursday morning. Waking up at 7:30 am in Hayward, CA meant that there was no way short of a helicopter I was going to make it to San Francisco before 9. I’m pretty sure my company would not let me expense a helicopter so I decided to catch up on some email from the hotel until traffic burned off. I also had “Smash Head” from the party Weds night!
