Special VMworld Hyper9 VMM Offer – Free Permanent License

Anyone who’s been to a 4 day technical conference knows there will most likely be at least one support call that forces you to remotely manage servers from the event. Even though admins bring wireless notebooks, everyone also knows that wifi access can be sketchy at best at conferences as large as VMworld. As a virtual machine remote administration alternative, Hyper9 VMM lets you manage your VMs from your mobile phone and therefore use your phone provider’s network. The good news is Hyper9 just announced a special deal for those going to San Francisco.

The deal is so good that some VI admins that have been unfortunate so far getting approval to attend VMworld might be able to justify the benefits of a free VMM license as a second try argument. Be creative. Who knows?  If you are still unsuccessful be sure to read the last paragraph of the offer below, but keep that as your “ace in the hole”. I am trying to get you there!

From Hyper9’s Communicator Email Newsletter I received today:

Hyper9 VMM Installation: Tomcat Configuration Notes

This post is a mix of the official Virtualization Mobile Manager (VMM )instructions found at Hyper9.com and my notes and screen shots of the configurations necessary to get the Tomcat application configured on Windows 2003 Standard with SP2. I’ve seen a few emails and comments from others who have found the VMM configuration process challenging, so I kept track of my install for future reference and hopefully to serve as some assistance to others.

At the end of this post I discuss my attempts to configure a virtual host in Tomcat in order to connect with VMM on my Blackberry from the Internet. Read the rest of this entry »

Special Hyper9 VMM Beta Program Perks Available For VM /ETC Readers

Monitor and Manage VMs on the Go with Virtualization Mobile Manager (VMM) now available in beta from Hyper9. VMM Sound familiar? That’s because Andrew Kutz previously released VMM on his lostcreations.com web site before he joined the Hyper9 team and became responsible for H9Labs. However, this latest version has broadened it’s support to include not only VMware ESX and ESXi, but also VMware Server, Microsoft Hyper-V, and Citrix XenServer 5. If I am not mistaken, that makes VMM the first multi vendor virtualization management tool in existence (mobile phone or otherwise) that can administer and monitor guests on all the major platforms.

The VMM beta is now available to the entire virtualization universe at the link above, but Hyper9 has a special offer for VM /ETC readers that comes with some exclusive perks:

  • automatic entry to win a mobile device in a contest starting in June
  • a limited edition Hyper9 t-shirt (in exchange for some VMM feedback)
  • 50% discount should you choose to purchase

Be one of the first 15 readers to comment on this post to take advantage of this invitation. Be sure to use a valid email address so that Hyper9 can contact you about the beta download, your shirt, and more.

What is VMM? Hyper9 describes the product and it’s features as follows: Read the rest of this entry »

Hyper9 now publically available

Today marked the official release of the Hyper9 search based, agentless VMware admin tool. Regular readers will recall VM /ETC helped recruit beta testers for this product through multiple different sign up periods over the last 6 months. In fact, the Hyper9 team in Austin, TX has been busy with several press releases recently. I’ll sum them up with some quotes here in this post. Go to the Hyper9 | Company » News & Events web page to read all announcements in full. Read the rest of this entry »

Last chance for Hyper9 Beta participation. Sign up by Jan 22.

updated 01.23.09 – The beta registration period has ended. Thanks to all the readers that signed up!

VM /ETC readers have one last opportunity to get an advanced look at the Hyper9 browser based virtual infrastructure management tool before it is released to the public. According to the Beta newsletter I received, the product launch is scheduled for sometime in February. The newsletter also mentioned additional product functionality, savings for beta testers, and changes to the Hyper9 Community web pages.

Once again I am providing an automated form for interested readers to sign up for a copy. Filling out the form with a valid email address will result in an auto reply containing additional instructions about the program and a link to register. The beta registration form will only be available until midnight January 22.

updated 01.17.08I have moved the sign up form to it’s own page. Please click here to fill in the form.

I also discovered that the auto reply was not working properly for all the form entries that have been collected. I manually forwarded all the applicants directly to Hyper9, so if you submitted your information but never received an email reply I have been informed that Hyper9 will now be following up with you.

For more information and screen shots of this awesome VI management tool check out my previous post First look at Hyper9 beta for VM /ETC readers. or check out these additonal Hyper9 links:

Hyper9 private beta invitations still available from VM /ETC

The folks over at Hyper9 are still looking for qualified companies to participate in their private beta program of their soon to be released search based virtual infrastructure management tool. Check out my previous post about the tool’s great features and to see some screen shots of it in action.

If you are interested in obtaining your own invitation to the beta program fill out the form at the end of this post. Your will receive a confirmation email with further instructions. Your contact information will be forwarded to Hyper9 so that they know you were referred by VM /ETC, but otherwise your information will be kept private. If enough VM /ETC readers sign up I get free pizza!

The current beta invitations are available until midnight December 5, so sign up now!

First look at Hyper9 beta for VM /ETC readers

I was lucky enough to attend a live demonstration of the new Hyper9 virtual infrastructure search and monitoring tool this week, and as a result a limited number of VM /ETC readers will be lucky enough to have access to the currently closed Hyper9 beta program in the near future. Stay tuned to VM /ETC for information on signing up for access to the exclusive beta program, but for now, this post provides a first look at some of the features demonstrated to me. I’ve also been given permission to provide some screen shots.

Hyper9 was announced publically back in September, and then caught the attention of many VMworld 2008 attendees. Scott Lowe, Edward Haletky, Eric Siebert, and Keith Ward are some of the many that have already written about their impressions of this tool’s capabilities. In general, Hyper9 is a search based management tool that promises to “rock your world” of virtual infrastructure management. Hyper9 can be used to query for information at the hardware, hypervisor, and VM operating system levels.

So, what exactly is Hyper9 and what’s so special about a tool that can search against all objects in your virtual infrastructure? Read the rest of this entry »
