Alternative Patch Process and Updates on the VMware AUG 12 time bomb BUG
Being that it is the end of the week and I have fallen a day or so behind in keeping up with the VMware updates for the August 12 time bomb bug, I decided that I would post the remaining emails I received from VMware. I’m also including an update from John Troyer from the VMTN Blog providing some clarity on version number information differences between the install media and the express patched ESX/ESXi 3.5 versions. New Patches Available for ESX 3.5 / 3i and ESX 3.01 / 3.02 – June 3, 2008
New Patches have been released for ESX 3.5 / 3i, ESX 3.02, and ESX 3.01. Information from the email notifications I received are copied in this post. Looks like monthly patching has become a reality for VMware. That’s the ultimate proof of success, I guess. If it’s a popular product the chances of it being exploited are increased exponentially. Make sure your Update Manager server is working properly …..
Minority Report: Multi-touch features in Windows 7
Remember the movie Minority Report? It starred Tom Cruise as the leader of a “pre-crime” police unit in the future that was responsible for stopping murders before they happened. Pyschics known as “The Precogs” were able to see visions of murders that were about to happen, and images from those visions appeared on a big glass screen. Mr. Cruise could manipulate these images with his hands in order to figure out where and when the crime would take place so he could prevent the killings.
I’m testing your memory because I received the latest WServerNews email the other day and learned that Microsoft demonstrated the new Multi-Touch features that will be part of their next version, currently named Windows 7. Check out this video of the demo. Read the rest of this entry »
VCDX announced – Advanced Certification for VMware Infrastructure Design
In the May 2008 edition of the VMware Partners email newsletter I received this week there is news of the official availability of the VMware Certified Design Expert certification or VCDX. From the email:

- Pass the VMware Design Exam. This exam focuses on actual design and contains and situational questions
- Submit, present and defend a successful VMware Infrastructure design plan
The first exam required will be available Read the rest of this entry »

Thursday 9.13.07 Keynote – what I missed :(
Unfortunately I slept late Thursday morning. Waking up at 7:30 am in Hayward, CA meant that there was no way short of a helicopter I was going to make it to San Francisco before 9. I’m pretty sure my company would not let me expense a helicopter so I decided to catch up on some email from the hotel until traffic burned off. I also had “Smash Head” from the party Weds night!
blog.scottlowe.org has some great notes on this session. Here’s my thoughts on what I missed. Read the rest of this entry »
