Didier,

DroboElite did not show up on the VMware HCL last I checked.

The BeyondRaid technology is the WOW factor, and that ties into your other comment about not selling RAID compatible drives too. The point is that Drobo doesn't use RAID, but still provides data striping across multiple SATA disks. BeyondRaid also uses all available disk space even if using mismatched drive sizes.

Am I correct to say that this DroboElite is NOT VMware certified (yet)?
Although DroboPro is certified... Surely Data Robotics has planned to get his new baby certified... Well I hope :)

I don't understand the ooooh, aaaaah, woow around that product... OK the design is cool but that's it, it's pretty much a black box :(

There are out there, non-enterprise ready thought, but much cheaper iSCSI/NFS storage devices and VMware certified, for your test/lab environment.

And BTW, Data Robotics should stop selling disk drives that are NOT compatible with RAID systems. Indeed WD Caviar Green, Blue, Black, whatever color, are NOT compatible with any RAID technology. Only the RE (Raid Edition is).

Rgds,
Didier

Yes, redundant power is a must for Enterprise deployments.

In fact.. dual brains and ability to easily swap all failure-prone components, is usually wanted for storage devices; either that or a second device, with some form of synchronous replication and storage cluster/failover option may be required..

hours of downtime for all virtual machines, because of one CPU, memory module, or cable failure is unacceptable for most Enterprises.
