Facebook Mini Blogs – vSphere Host Profiles without Enterprise Plus Edition
VM /ETC recently opened a Facebook page that is open for anyone to add as a friend. Since, unlike Twitter, Facebook allows more than 140 characters while micro blogging I’ve decided to try a series of VM /ETC Mini Blogs. These will be anything from random virtualization thoughts to short burst of infornation.
To give an idea of the type of content I am talking about check out my first Mini Blog titled vSphere Host Profiles without Enterprise Plus Edition.
I may post about the Facebook Mini Blogs here on VM /ETC from time to time to widen the discussion, but to be sure to catch them all become a fan of the VM /ETC page or browse it from the web on a regular basis! The series will be mostly exclusive to Facebook.
The page also aggregates my normal blog feed as well.

Still working out the kinks on FB. I am a fan since you put the page up, but have only received 1 update, but noticed you have several Notes and Wall postings that don't notify fans automatically.
Rich – I've added your Facebook Mini Blog to VMwareInfo's Fan page Favorites.
It'll be interesting to see which posts go to FB and which stay here for the wider audience. For me, I use my facebook page as another subscription tool for readers who aren't as familiar with RSS but are active Facebook users.
Good Luck with your experiment.
CARLO.
I am still working out the FB kinks too. I have not been updating the VM /ETC page until yesterday so that is probably why you have not seen any updates, but I guess I don't understand the difference between wall postings and fan updates. I'm a fan of VM /ETC on my personal FB page and I get the RSS aggregation and the wall updates in my friend feed there.
I just double checked my page settings and did not see anything that would restrict content to fans. If you know what I need to check please point it out! Thanks for becoming a fan!
I've become a fan of VMwareinfo now too. Thanks!
Suppose it's time I hop into facebook too now. So many things to do, so little time.

Rich,
Good idea on the FB page. I left the following comment on Host Profiles there too…
There are, of course, 3rd party solutions available that can do some of the things that Host Profiles do and don't require Enterprise+ or even ESX4.
I would venture a guess that your suggestion of using the evaluation mode for Host Profiles before applying your license would be a EULA violation (I'm not sure, I just have some experience w/ the … Read Morewording of VMware's EULA).
What are the most important features of Host Profiles that you'd like to see a 3rd party provide at a fraction of the cost of Enterprise+?
