VMworld 2008 Schedule Builder is Live – My Schedule
I am a little late on posting about it, but the VMworld 2008 Schedule Builder is live. At the end of this post I am including my schedule which I think I have finalized. Here’s some of the announcement email I received:
A quick, easy way to plan your VMworld experience
Schedule Builder lets you search sessions by topic, speakers, and other key parameters, so you can customize your VMworld experience to suit your specific needs and interests.
To guarantee your spot in the sessions of your choice, we strongly encourage you to build your schedule prior to arriving onsite. Sessions and labs fill up quickly and space is limited, so build your schedule today!

To sign into Schedule Builder, you will need your VMworld 2008 registration username and password.
This year’s builder takes a little longer to complete, but the end result is definitely worth it. Take the time to go through the Content Catalog and determine your preferred sessions. You can then use the automatic builder to systematically populate time slots for the whole week. I had too many sessions marked as preferred the first time I tried it, so I was told the automated builder can only work with 30 sessions – just a heads up! There are instructions for the whole process once you log in. Click the “Sign in Now” button above. I also like that the online builder let’s you print out a badge holder format of your schedule, and lets you export it to an iCal or vCal file for your Blackberry, PDA, or mobile calendar.
My schedule strategy this year was to try to sprinkle in content on future trends and technologies as well as sessions that I thought were a little outside of the normal, popular content. I get enough of the mainstream best practices design, install, configure, and monitor information as a VAC partner, so from both a blogging and knowledge perspective I hope my schedule content will be a bit unique.
Here’s my schedule in normal format:

I’m curious how you did this. Your only allowed two instructor led labs, you have 2 on monday and a third LAB A on Thursday. How did you do that? I was interested in LAB A as well but it is not offered on Monday…and it won’t let me schedule on other days since I have two instructor labs on Monday.
Jay,
It did not let me schedule all the labs the first time through, but when I went back through a second time I was able to book those. I’m not sure what changed, or maybe I just got lucky?
Dave,
I actually replaced sessions the second time through .. just thought I’d give you more info about what exactly I did …
It might have something to do with you signed up as a partner. Thanks for sharing the schedule…always good to see what others are finding of interest!
I’ve signed up as a partner as well, but I’m only allowed to schedule 2 labs. I think you got lucky. I had the same thing 2 years ago. Because of a bug in the scheduling software I was able to book more than 2 labs. 2 weeks before vmworld I got an email asking me to remove some labs or else they will…
Sven,
I’d rather be lucky than good! No email from VMware yet. I’ll let you know if it changes. I just logged on a checked my schedule again and nothing has changed. Maybe since it’s the last day of the conference and demand is not as high? I also have a press pass so that could be a factor?
How did you get a press pass? And what are the advantages?
Sven,
I was offered one by VMware. I’m not sure of the advantages yet. This is my first time using one.
Rich your blog has been a tremendous. I have also posted my schedule at http://www.holy-vm.com and will be posting through out VMworld.
