Hi all. I have the same problem. I installed ESXi 4.1 on HP DL380 G7. I can easily copy small files into local data store but I have problem uploading large files (I/O error Occurred). The server traffic passes through a firewall but all ports are open between the source and destination. I enable ssh and try to copy the file with winSCP. It was successful. Also I try to copy the same file into another data store in the same zone again it was successful. Do any one have any idea what is the problem.

Felix,

That sounds more like a disk corruption or OS local problem. If ESXi
can't start a client can't connect to it - no matter what subnet you
try from :)

had some issue, when i power on ESXi I experience PXE-T01 File not found.. operating system not found..

what did it went wrong? Do I have to be on the same subnet? VMWare ESXi was on 192.168.102.x and the Vsphere client was install on 192.168.110.x. Does it make any different?

Thanks

Yeah - banged my head on the keyboard with SCP until I saw this. Here is the trick ->

Enable SSH on the ESXi system (alt/f1, unsupported, root pw, edit inetd.conf, etc)
Do your vmkfstools -i on the primary vmdk file then gzip the cloned disk and use the VI browse datastore function to download the file.

Gzip turned a 12GB disk file (mostly empty space) into a 1GB file and it transferred in 3 minutes using the VI.

Cheers.

PS> Now testing transferring that cloned disk to a completely new host and building the exact same VMs. Doing this 16 times so I will make sure the hack works.

Gzip turned a 12GB disk file (mostly empty space) into a 1GB file and it transferred in 3 minutes using the VI.

Cheers.
