Author: Like all bloggers, I have accumulated a bunch of links in my drafts that are sitting there collecting dust. In an effort to clean some of those drafts out I have combined several online calculators into this post. Each of these calculators can help administrators and IT departments understand and budget for a virtualization project. Enjoy!

The Windows Server Virtualization Calculators provide two ways to estimate the number and cost of Windows Server Standard Edition, Enterprise Edition and Datacenter Edition licenses needed for your virtualization scenarios to help you determine the most cost-effective edition of Windows Server.
- Calculator 1 is designed to estimate the licenses and cost of Windows Server by editions and numerous Microsoft server products on a single, physical server.
- Calculator 2 is designed to estimate the licenses and cost of only Windows Server by edition for one or multiple physical servers.
The calculators are pre-populated with the US dollar Open agreement Estimated Retail Prices that you can update with your organization’s prices for more accurate estimates.

Windows Virtualization Calculator
Microsoft finally did something right. The released an online calculator designed to calculate the cost of running the different versions of Microsoft Windows Server in a Virtual Infrastructure. You can use this tool to determine which version of Windows is going to be the most cost effective for your organization.
This is nice because when talking about virtualization with customers, the topic of Windows virtualization almost always comes up. This will help illustrate the different pricing options.
The only problem with this tool is that it’s only available online. Therefore, I used the online tool as the basis for an Excel spreadsheet that does the same thing.
