With the new release of VI3.5 yesterday VMware is offering special pricing in the form of Acceleration kits designed for small and medium sized businesses. The kits consist of licensing for multiple ESX hosts packaged to get you started with virtual infrastructure. The acceleration kits offer discounted pricing when comparing the cost of buying single ESX licenses which are sold in 2 processor increments.

The following are descriptions of the kits from a VMware marketing email I received:

VMware Infrastructure 3 Foundation Acceleration Kit
Ideal for small and mid-size businesses that want to reduce costs and increase efficiency, this kit provides a solid foundation for consolidating servers and building a robust virtual infrastructure.

VMware Infrastructure 3 Standard High Availability (HA) Acceleration Kit
For IT organizations that must ensure the availability of critical applications, this kit provides the building blocks for a virtual infrastructure that includes automated failover protection.

VMware Infrastructure 3 Midsized Acceleration Kit
For organizations that want a more advanced solution, this kit provides the technology to implement a robust business continuity and disaster recovery plan. Training and consulting credits are also included that can be applied to VMware courses or services.

VirtualCenter Foundation Management Server
Included with all the acceleration kits listed above, VirtualCenter Foundation provides centralized management for smaller deployments.
