esXpress vs VCB vs vRanger

Looking for a comparison of VM backup solutions? PHD Technologies, makers of esXpress, have put together a matrix of features comparing how their product stacks up to VMware’s VCB, Vizioncore’s vRanger, and even vRanger integrated with VCB.

Check it out online in original form here.

I have saved the matrix as a stand alone page as well.

updated 12-11-07 *****

After reading comments from readers I realized

that PHD’s comparison is either outdated and does not account for the current versions of VCB and vRanger, or the comparison’s wording was “spun” in favor of esXpress. I guess I didn’t pay enough attention to the comparison’s content in my hurry to publish the post. So, I have modified PHD’s original comparison based on my knowledge of the current product versions and saved it as a separate stand alone web page.

Please feel free to contact me if I have missed / misunderstood any of the features.

  • Chris,

I've updated the link to my modified comparison. I had a few sub directories at my previous site that I no longer have now that vmetc.com is hosted. Sorry for the inconvenience.

If it still doesn't work let me know.

    Hey,
this one seems to be pretty interesting. But I can't click on your updated comparison. It shows just an php-error. Can you maybe check this? That would be great.

    thx

  • Thanks for the feedback, we have updated the chart to better reflect said feedback. We have a pdf document justifying our reasons at the bottom of the chart now.

  • The comparsion chart was made using the current ranger manual for their backup product and VCBs and network mode. Please address what you consider to be mistakes to support at esxpress.com and we will address them.
  • I have updated the post to include a modified version of the comparison that takes into account the latest versions of the products.

Thanks for the catch, and thanks for reading my blog!

This is a very esxPress biased comparison and not accurate at all.
